RBTA not bubbling

I'm new to anemone keeping but mine's about 3 weeks to a month old. It's a medium size (~4" disk when expanded) and I have it at the very top of the tank. Probably 6" underwater beneath a 250W 20k MH and 2 - 95 watt PC's (both actinics).

It looks pretty healthy and I feed it 3 or 4 mysis every other day. Do some rbta's not bubble or is there something i can do to make it happier?

It's a 110 gallon mixed tank with a few softies, a few lps, and a fairly decent amount of sps frags that all seem to be growing.

It's an unknown. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Mine is slowly deflating after 18 months of bubbling nicely for what seems like no reason. I wouldn't worry too much.

+1. It is like an anemone hosting clowns. Some clowns will some wont.

Wouldn't worry too much. Like said above, some do, some don't. Some bubble in some tanks, and won't bubble in other tanks.

If it starts bleaching, then there is room for concern. Until then, enjoy!!!

I bought an RBTA not long ago, and it bubbled for a while in a 65g, then deflated, even near the top. I just moved it to a 40g frag tank, and it's bubbling again, now on the bottom. Don't know if it's the different light, better flow, or improved water quality. Only thing I know is it looks healthier, so he'll probably stay in the frag tank unless I run out of room.

I read somewhere that the tentacles stretch out when they are hungry or need more light. When they are good on light supposedly they bubble.

I was in pure reef and they had 2 rbta's basically one on top of the other. The one on top was a little redder and bubbled. I don't stop in there very often so that may not be the norm but that's what I saw when I was in there.

I don't think health has anything to do with it. I'm not sure light has anything to do with it either. Mine has gone from a quarter sized "completely bubbled" RBTA to a 12" "long tentacle" monster and it anchored almost on the top of my rock. I would almost say flow is a factor though.

The first pic was taken Christmas Day 2011 so it's been about 14 months.
