Picked up an RBTA today. Right away it grabbed a spot and had full bubbles going. Went out for a little bit came back to him sucked into my closed loop return. He got pretty mangled up and lost quite a few tentacles. How resilient are the guys?

Ouch. **** sorry to hear that. I normally leave circulation off for a day or two after adding them. They sometimes still move once the flow comes back on, but it is a little less likely.

Fortunately, they are very resilient. Make an anenome cage for him out of egg crate, and put him in a not so turbulent part of your tank. They normally make a good comeback from the dead. When they start to turn into mush and disintegrate is when they are not far from being a gonner.

Does the foot have any damage to it?

Not that could see. Just a few tentacles lost. I put it back in place and he's stayed put so far, maybe he learned his lesson. Hah.

I very seriously doubt this ^^ hehe

LOL. I figure, if anenomes have a brain, it's a small one. They seem to follow the flow and light regardless of whether their experience. The good thing about RBTA's is that once they find a spot they like, they normally stay for good. Mine is in the same spot it's been since I placed it in the tank.

Best of Luck, Man!!!

So... He did eventually find a spot, unfortunately it's in the back corner of the tank. Will he most likely stay there? I'd prefer him on the rock work. Will I damage him trying to pry him off the acrylic?

they are pretty resilent, check out this thread where the same thing happened to another member.

I would just let him hang out wherever he wants while he is stressed from that impeller.

It might be best to cover your overflow teeth with pantyhose until he gets situated on your rockwork

Thanks, it seems like it's pretty happy where it is at the moment. It actually wasn't an impeller, it was just the intake screen for my closed loop system. I guess the flow was strong enough to pull it apart when it was stuck on there.
