I am getting a new RedSea Max 250 and I am super pumped to get started in this new hobby!

I am just looking for people to give me pointers on how to really get going... I have talked to people at aquarium shops and I am happy to get this thing going.. But I wanted to know what pointers people had for me. I have never had a tank before but am in love with this new idea and hobby.

Advise away people! What is the best way to get stuff to put inside?

Advice: Go slow, read this forum, read more, and ask questions. Oh, and go slow... Welcome aboard!

Thanks man. I know what you mean by go slow. That is what I am going to do. But how slow do you think is slow? for now I am just going get my water and like 20-30 pounds of rock. and let it all cure and wait a while before putting any reef or fish in it. I need to find some free frags to be able to start off in case I don't sustain them. And some chromis to run around. What do you think?

Oh boy... my tank is out of stock by the distributor. I have to wait. I don't even know how long. They are saying maybe 6 weeks! I don't know what I am going to do... I guess I will just have to wait. no one is giving me the deal they are. boooo....

Hey Riz.

Is that you from Warehouse? Good to see you on here. I am going to add you as a buddy.

Hi Peachy...
Not 100% on what I want yet, so I am open to some suggestions for sure. But I have a 2 year old daughter that I want to keep interested so I think some nice fish would be nice. I took her to an LFS and she was actually into the reef! So I think once I get going, I will see what kind of reef I can keep without overwhelming myself and start that way.

I know that I want a couple of clownfish. I really like the maroon ones, but I understand that they are a bit aggressive. I also will get a good 'ole yellow tang and I really would like a blue tang or a powder blue one. I will likely get some kind of goby and maybe some sort of wrasse. I really like fish and I like the reef that flows nicely. I am strapped for cash after I will get the RSM 250, but I will start pretty slow. Got any suggestions? I am a total newbee so I need help.

Your list looks good with the exception of the tangs. The tank is too small, unfortunately.

Even the yellow tang? Can't I start with small ones, even the blue tang and then get rid of them when they get too big? What are some good ideas for fish.. I will definitely have some chromis too.. And are you really a UGA fan? What's with the Notre Dame avatar? I am a huge UGA fan.

Haha. I bet another member ( a ND fan) that UGA would win more games than ND. The loser has to use the others avatar for 6 months. We (UGA) have a great class coming in. John Jenkins committed today. we should end up in the top 5 in recruiting.
