I received mine today and am hopeing someone else got one recently. Everything fit together fine until I got to the water outake part. There is a part (tube) "N" that says "Metric" on one end and "British Size" on the other. The metric end fits fine in the elbow at the bottom of the skimmer but the red tube that connects to the top which says "British Size" is too small and kind of wobbles around instead of fitting snugly. I have called and emailed them but thought someone may have gotten one recently and can explain. I am thinking that the part "N" that says Metric on one end and British Size on the other is the incorrect part. Thanks in advance.

British is another name for "Imperial Units" which is what we use here in the US. As in inches. Therefore, I would say the end that is marked Metric would connect to the skimmer and the other end would fit standard fittings that could be found at HD. Therefore, if you are plumbing it external, you would need that to be able to connect to the plumbing pipe you are using to return it back to the sump. Hope that helps.

I believe they ship that in cause you are using it externally as Rich said. In sump use, it is not used.

The pipe that is supposed to fit into it goes up and connects to the gate valve. So if I get a size that will fit at the bottom then I have to rig a piece in to the gate valve at the top. The skimmer was a few hundred dollars so I really want the correct part. I appreciate the advise but I think I have the wrong part...

Edit: If I do not use this piece the gate valve will be about 2 inches from the base.

Pics...

I know a fair amount about Octopus skimmers, as I use them, but I need a model reference or something.

All Octopus skimmers are in metric sizes typically.

Yes. You guys are a lot better at this than me so I will post some pics tomorrow. Please check back and let me know where I am messing up. :)

I assume you have these:

And don't take this the wrong way but, make sure your gate valve is oriented the right way with the valve wheel up top and not on the side - I've done crap like that before after a few adult beverages...

That is it. I just Googled and looked at some pics from different angles and I think it is operator error. I am away until tommorrow so I will try again. Thanks for everyone's help!
