reef temp question

I have a 210 mixed reef and want the temp to be around 78. My problem is that my chiller is running non stop, showing 81 degrees but its set to 78. My reefkeeper 2 is showing 78.3 , my coralife temp is 75 and a pool thermometer is showing 75. Do I average them all together? If its 81 its to warm and if its 75 its to cold. What should I do?

Is the pool thermometer a glass one? If so, I'd consider that to be the most accurate (generally speaking). To be safe, use the rk2 reading as the "true" reading & give your chiller a break. Jmo

Thanks, the chiller runs non stop all day and night. I will turn it off and watch the temps closely.

The chiller is a current 1/4 hp but it shares the pump with my uv sterilizer. it runs through the uv sterilizer into the chiller then into the sump. Maybe thats why its showing 81 on the chiller. the water coming out with a pool thermometer is 73

simple calibrate your thermometer.............

get a clean, rinsed 1-2 quart container. fill will ice cubes. fill with water. stir. let stand 5 minutes. insert thermometer at correct depth, without letting tip come in contact with ice. it should read exactly 32 degrees F.

oh, and if your thermometer don't go that low, get one that you CAN calibrate. Then you'll know which temp is correct.

very inexpensive
