Reefbreeders led's - value vs controllable

So the only difference between the value and controllable models are the controllable ones basically have a digital timer where you set up the time on off schedule and a slow build up/down of intensity to similar sunrise and sunset?

Any other differences? That doesn't really sound like it's worth $360 more money for the 3 units I would need verses the value line... Right???

And the fact with the timer it raises or lowers the intensity of the lighting auto brightens or dims

So that's the only difference though?

Just wish they had one that I could use my apex with.

Has anyone looked at the

Has anyone looked at the http://www.buildmyled.com">http://www.buildmyled.com</a> lights? I believe they have a 3 year warranty on their lights and they work with an apex.[/QUOTE]

What do u want to be able to do with it with your apex?

I asked about Reefbreeders over on 3reef and people have been saying I can get by running two 24's on my 6ft 210. I was thinking I would need 3 units but maybe only 2...?

I can control my lights remotely with the apex. I know these controller ones can do sunrise/sunset but I can change the dimming etc currently.

I guess I'm not understanding the difference? What's the difference in my light automatically dimming versus apex dimming them?

I can control everything about my lights from anywhere with my apex. These would be set and you're stuck. Not really a big deal but I invested money in my apex already. I'd like to use it.

Best example I can give is that I was sitting in a meeting at work and my wife texts me asking how to turn the lights on for the tank since she had some friends over and wanted to show off the tank. I just opened the app and turned them on. It's a nice feature to have.

While I would agree that remotely changing the current status of your lights is nice, I might argue that it's not worth the 500-600 price difference but sure it's nice. Of course all I have to do in that instance is tell my wife to grab the light remote control and hit the sunny button and voila, let there be light. One other point to note, is that if its during the day while u are at work, wouldn't your lights be in already :P

Sorry not trying to argue with you, I was honestly hoping to hear a legitimate reason for using apex with the expensive lights over my controllable lights.

Anyways kind of de-railing this post. In regards to the value vs controllable, I
Promise u will love the controllability and dimmability of these fixtures over having to manually do it. I was able to set my lights and haven't messed with them since. Also I'm still only running my lights way throttled back; blue channel at 40% and white at 50%. I may bump that max up 5% this week and see how the corals respond.

Yes the 24" covers 3' of tank so all u would need is 2 of them. My 32" covers 48" and that's with 90 degree optics. U can get different optics free if charge or u can remove the 90 and basically have 120 degree optics.

Does it matter at all that my 210 has two center braces?

Also I wonder why they made the shorter 16 the stronger light with more led's vs the 24...?

Lol. Not arguing either. But I didn't buy the controller just to control lights. That's just one thing it does and since made the investment I'm not sure I want to walk away from that functionality. I wouldn't buy an apex just because it controls lights but rather what it does as a complete package.

Read some reports that these fixtures gave an overly red hue. Anyone that has one or seen one able to comment on that?

No but I did read that some people were adding more blues and taking out some whites. I personally have not noticed a red hue, I have no issues with how mine looks. It's more to the blue side rather a purplish look that some seem to look like.
