I am looking at getting one or the other just not sure which one yet opinions greatly apperciated pro/cons of each

ive also been wanting a controller ive had my heart set on an apex but i would like to know what every body thinks of both as well

Reef keeper is simple apex can be complex. I own both and prefer reef keeper

As I type this I am about to pull my reefkeeper elite offline and install my APEX. I have not had any real issues with the RKE. My biggest complaint was the web interface and lack of control. The reefkeeper needed a net module (about $100) and it limits you to only be able to see what's going on. You really have no control from the web. The Apex has a built in web server and you have real control when away from home. Also the APEX has four built in 0-10vdc dimming ports and six analog switch inputs. With the reefkeeper a SL1 or SL2 module gives you two switch inputs that need a special connector and you need a ALC for two 0-10vdc dimming ports.

Both are good systems. But after a lot of research I felt the Apex was a better solution for me long term. The biggest deciding factor was customer service. Over and over I've seen posts of people having an issue with an Apex that was fixed by Neptune logging into the Apex and fixing the problem remotely, sometimes even on weekends. Too often people seem to never get help from DA. Reading the DA forums it seems like DA has left product support to the users that frequent their forums.

You will probably get a lot of recommendations for both systems but the majority will be for the Apex. It happens over and over.

I have 3 RKE and 2 RKL so yes I like them. Their support has been the best for me. Every thing is simple and easy to use. I have never been on the net with mine (will be soon) But a friend of mine is and he is able to control every thing from his phone. Turn lights on and off chiller etc.

Have 2 Apex jr and the full system. I would say if you like to tinker and have time to figure out how the codes work get the apex. I've heard reef keepers are much more user friendly. Either way you will enjoy greatly!!

APEX
I think it's like asking Chevy vs BMW. I don't need to have ever owned a Chevy to know a BMW is better.

;)

i went with an Apex Jr because I wanted the internet interface right out of the box. i also purchased the VDM module to control my AI Sol LEDs. I have had troubles setting it up up I'm sure it'll be ok once it gets going.

The scripts aren't a big deal to me for the apex. I write atleast one a day it looks to be unix based. But with that being said this is all I want to do dawn day dusk moon lights and for them to shut off when the temp gets to high. I also want temp and ph on displayed so I can just look at it and tell what it is. Wireless network connectvity isn't that big of a deal as long as it can be hard wired. I have been looking at the apex lite with a ph probe. Thanks for all the input :) and any more will be greatly apperciated. Not unless someone just gives me a deal I can't refuse on a RK :)

If you think that a Calcium Reactor might be in or future think about doing a full Apex. My wife got the lite for Christmas last year (Yeah, she's pretty incredible). I thought that I was going to stay away from the SPS stuff and stick with zoa's and LPS. Well the SPS bug has bit and I've got a Ca Reactor and having the 2nd pH probe would be nice ( I got lucky and the Reactor came with a controller, and yes I can and will have to pick up the Probe Module ).

I'm sure you have seen this but I'll put it up anyways, its the Unofficial Guide has a good comparison of the different Neptune controllers and a Great DIY section (I think Schwaggs has an article in there). Takes a minute to open

Oh... and it's been said and I will repeat it - Great Customer Service!

Thanks for all the replies guy's I have decided to go with an Apex. From what I have read and the replies I have gotten on here you get more bang for your buck and you can do some really cool stuff with it!
