My refugium light crapped out on me... so many lessons to learn in this hobby. I know some people use flood lights / shop lights for their fuge.

Any advice on how I can make this / what parts I would need?

just use a simple par38 CFL bulb, they are at walmart and home depot, and get a cheap clamp on fixture to go with it. cheap and effective

they make a clamp on light for a heat lamp thats pretty cheap, it has a large bowl shaped reflector, you know you've seen em.

Edit: I agree with jeads bulb too.

Sounds good, thanks guys. I will be heading to home depot tomorrow after work.

They will have the light and the 6700k bulbs there. Watch the saltcreep and moisture. If it gets bad/could be a fire hazard get an enclosed made for the hobby unit. I think the led azoo lights can be snagged up in the $20 range new

I like the cfl bulbs at depot, they are super cheap. I run the 100w equivalent

I have a Coralife light designed for a fuge. It has 2 small T5's in it. If you want it I will sell it to you for $20. It is brand new.

I am definitely interested. Does this come with a clamp or does it have to lay flat? It would be on an 18g sump/fuge so I am not sure exactly how it would attach?

It lays flat. If your sump is an open top you could put some egg crate over it so the light can sit on it. I have some egg crate laying around that you can have.

I also have a couple clip on lights if you want one of those instead. $10 without a bulb.

Mike- thanks again for offering your light, I really do appreciate it.

I ended up just getting a shop light with a 5,000k 50w bulb. I hope it does the trick. The price was right at $12 for everything.
