Refugium/sump set up

Relatively new to the saltwater scene....
I have had my tank setup for about 3-4 weeks and now have fish in it(1-2 weeks). I built my sump with a fuge and a section for a protein skimmer. I already have it going but I did not have the fuge set up with the mud and algae because no place in macon has this available. I just got the mud in and am going to get some chaeto algae this weekend. My question is . . . Can I just put the mud in the bottom of my fuge compartment with the sump running? I am worried about initiating another cycle since fish and an anemone are in the tank already. What would be my best course of action???

you'll be fine as long as it is not a significan amount of fresh live mud direct from the ocean which would have some die off.

shut down the pumps, add the mud, after its all settled turn it all back on. Welcome to the ARC. THE BEST REEFING SITE EVER!!!!!
