The mushrooms are getting out of control in my tank. I would really like to get rid of them. At least most of them anyway. I'm new so not real sure what to do. Cutting them off sure didn't work. I hate to tear the tank apart but that's what it is coming to..help:shout:

Unfortunately this is the case with mushrooms , I'd say removing the rock completely is a safe bet , how did you go about cutting them off before ?

Try putting a spoon in the freezer and then using that to make them let go

I had a serious mushroom problem a couple of years ago... the shrooms where going out of control and eventually started killing my SPS/ LPS colonies. I tried several different methods to get them under control and eventually found the ultimate solution to the mushroom problem: Reef Napalm.

Reef Napalm is an aptasia control method that I learned from Arcoholic. In a nutshell, it is a lye solution with an ultra high Ph and will basically kill any encrusting/ rapidly spreading coral that you want gone. Here is a detailed description:

When I killed off the mushrooms, I made a batch of the Reef Napalm and used a syringe to administer the "medicine". I pushed the end of the syringe into the mouth of the mushroom and would administer the RN directly into its inner cavity. A few minutes later the mushrooms would literally disintegrate.

Mushrooms are incredibly resilient, so you may want to administer 2-3 doses to ensure that none of the remaining tissue cannot grow back into a colony. I would wait 24 hours in between treatments, but I was able to pretty much kill everything by the 3rd dose.

Prior to the napalm, I tried everything. This is the best mushroom killing method that I have ever used!

I had read the threads on reef nap. I was wondering if it would work. Sounds a little sketchy but everybody seems to swear by it. Did they slime up real bad when you did it. I have a 90 gallon that i'm wanting to introduce more SPS. How many would you treat at one time with no ill effects?

I too was skeptical at first, but I can assure you that the reef napalm is the real deal... Nothing works as well at eliminating problem corals.

When you apply the napalm, the mushrooms will give off some slime as they are broken down. The napalm itself has a pretty minimal effect on the water chemistry (it will cause a slight rise in PH if you use enough of it). I started slow with the napalm applications.... I stared off using it on a handful of mushrooms at a time. Towards the end I would hit 20 mushrooms at a time with the stuff. I never saw a significant spike in nitrates as a result of the mushroom die off (150 gallon tank), but I would start slow and work your way up.

One suggestion before using RN: make sure your power heads and returns are turned off... You don't want the flow blowing the napalm or mushroom slime all over the tank. I would do an application then wait about 20 minutes before turning the power heads back on.

Sounds like a fire mission is in order for this weekend. Weapons selector switch...Napalm!

Go to CVS and ask for a 10 pack of u100 Bd untrafine shorts should be about 3.50$
It's an insulin needle 100u= 1 ml
If they ask about a prescription just tell the pharmacist the truth of what your doing , but likely they will not ask , its not really required to get them .

I work for a medical supply company. If anyone ever needs syringes, I have about 50,000 that we can't sell. I've been using them in my tank for years for spot feeding and such. Free for anyone who wants some, just let me know. Work is in Marietta , home is in atlanta.

Reefers are a weird breed
We are the only kind of people that like to get crabs, we are junkies that need syringes, we can have a little wrasse and a big wrasse at the same time, we deliberately stick our hand in water that has Palytoxin(poo and God knows what else) in it, we like to watch our pets mate/spawn and we cut up animals for fun.

When I turned the flow back on I almost had a heart attack. The tank had all that white snow I thought I had done something wrong and wiped out the entire tank with napalm. It cleared up very quick and all seems well with the exception of some xenia that had a shroom growing on it.
