rena xp3 filter question

I have a xp3 hooked to my 46 bowfront my question is what is the best media to put in it curently I am using the filter sponges that come with it some carbon and some phosorb to cut the phosphate problem but what elts can I use to make it preform better

I used an xp2 on a 30g for a while. I think you are running about the best media for that filter, but I was shocked at how little dirt it cleaned out of the tank.

I was running an Rena Filstar xp2 AND a Magnum 350 on a 30g tank (I know, over kill, but that's the way I roll) and noticed that the Magnum would be clogged with filth after a week, and the xp2 could literally go a month with cleaning and still be less dirty than the Magnum.

I wish Magnums were as easy to service as the Filstars are, as disconnect and cleaning were a breeze. Magnums are tempermental, a chore to assemble and and awkwardly engineered, but polish water like no other filter I've used......

really ihave a magnum that igot with a package deal and never used it I might have to clean it up and use it you just use carbon and a sleave over the basket correct

I use a Magnum with the water polishing filter. It's white and looks a bit like an airfilter for your car.

If anyone has issues with pieces of debris and floxum<span style="color: black"> </span>floating in your tank, ( I <span style="color: red">HATE </span><span style="color: black">that)</span> this filter will certainly clean it up.

While I'm a proponant of a Mangum Canister Filter being used as a water polisher, I'm not neccesarily a huge believer in a canister filter being your primary source for filteration in a reef setting, btw..........

no not at all I run a skimmer and lots of live rock for filtration on the 46

Lots of live rock, with good cirrculation is key. A skimmer is essential in that set-up, so it's great you've got one. If you have room, run both filters and maintance them regularly....... Your tank will be pristine!!!!!!
