Replacement for Mag pump

The return is 1 inch, but I do have a valve on it so it isn't going at full power. Maybe that's part of the problem. If I let the pump run open maybe it'll run cooler. I'll just let more into the refuge.

One or the other would probably help. I have a manifold on the 12 that feeds my biopellets and carbon. So there is little restriction. My tank is at 77.5 right now. I do have a wide open top and LEDs. Very little heat being added to the tank

Do you find yourself having to top off alot? One of the reasons I'm considering changing pumps is because I'm wondering if it's part of the reason why I need to top off frequently.

I do top off daily, but that is part of my dosing routine. I mix the calcium in a half gallon, dump it in and then the alk in a half gallon

just get an auto top off.....Albeit many systems are "better than" mine, I have the simplest: siphon/gravity fed from a 5 gallon container and even if the switch fails completely, nothing happens.....

before adding the ATO on my 75 it was around 3/4g a day. i have not checked the 120 its been up for almost a week now

I had ATO on my 90 which consisted of a salinity bucket and pump controled by float valve and float switch. I filled the 6 gallon salinity bucket once every 5 days. I still need to setup ATO on the 150 but I add about a gallon a day right now

My 45 with about 12 in the sump goes through about 5 gallons a week. That is with 6- T5s over it. My problem is I can't fit anything more than a pail (Aprox 2 gal) behind the entertainment system where my sump is. So I fill it every two days.

A mag pump may not necessarily overheat your tank. Mags draw considerably more watts than their counterparts of the same flow thereby producing more heat. when coupled with other factors such as lights and ambient temps, they can be the culprit that overheats a system. Calculate your head pressure and pick a pump that's performance curve falls somewhere in the middle range. Some head pressure on some pumps will actually cause then to run cooler. Bigger is not always better with pumps.

It is pie shaped. But, the 20 gal long tank I use for a sump eats up most of it. I have just enough room in the tip of the "Pie" to fit the pail. But no big deal since soon I will have a 6' long stand to put things in. hehehehehe Plus, the same amount of room behind. If I can figure out a good way to fill the top off bucket with out overflowing I will put a 5 gallon bucket back there when the 125 is up and running.
