Return Pump for a 150

So this will be my first time stepping out of the mag world as far as return pumps. They have been great pumps for me in the past on all my other tanks but i think i will need to move to a larger pump.

The tank is an oceanic 150 and dims are 60 x 24 x 24 and i was looking at iwaki or reeflo pumps in consideration of mels meeting so i was thinking something around 800gph to 1000 gph. Any thoughts?

I would assume i might run something off of it in the future or perhaps an OM pending more reading.

Panworld is also a good choice. Have you calculated your head pressure?

No i have not, whats the easiest way to do that....


Height from pump to top of the return: 52 inches
Distance horizontally from each return: 44 inches
any elbows or 90 degree turns: not sure as i have no idea how i will be plumbing this yet

Oh yeah, the set up is in the living room so it needs to be semi quiet....

Your flow rates of 800-1000 sound good for a 150 dual overflow tank. A Reeflo Tarpon would be my pick. It would be able to handle the return duties as well as push a skimmer. They are about as quiet as you can get for an external pump.

The X line is pressure rated, the XX line is circulation. Get a pressure rated one. You can run stuff off it and it has more flow in reality. I use Panworld/Blueline for my systems.

Reeflo pumps are good, but I have never been able to fit on in my available space.

I say why leave the MAG would??? An Ehiem 1262 would work, it's rated at 900 gph at only 80W... It's a beast of a return pump.

Honestly, im going to run this pump externally and ive always heard mags are not an good external pump..i do own three of them but for smaller systems and mixing water

As for using then out of water... I have used several out of the sump with no issues; as a matter of fact my Ca reactor uses an Eheim for circulation with no problems at all... </span></span>
