Is waste water constantly produced with an RODI unit? I have had a couple of ridiculous water bills and think it's since I installed my RODI. I can hear waste water running down my drain constantly even though the unit should not be producing water being as the float valve has shut off "good" water flow. I don't recall this happening with my previous unit. I have checked and as far as I can tell the unit is connected correctly.

Any chance it is a pure water club unit?
Their autoshutoffs ALWAYS fail

Not that I can tell. I went to the website and it says that low water pressure can cause excessive waste, and my water pressure is only 45 or so.

The basic answer is that NO you should not be running constant waste water after the RO/DI float valve has hit max.

However, in order to actually shut off, your RO/DI system must have an AUTO-SHUTOFF valve in it, and the system needs to build up a little pressure after the RO/DI float hits max (so it will run for a short time afterwards, but no more than maybe 5 minutes).

+100

I've gone through 3 of them already. I just turn my whole unit off now and then turn it on for a couple of hours every few days. If you're always getting waste water, then there's a 99% chance that's the issue.

No, it's actually a Aquatic Reef Systems Oceanic unit, I think that Purely H2O owns them now. Actually, the unit I had before was a pure water club unit and it shut off fine, it just leaked like a sieve at all the fittings:doh:

So I need one of these? Is 45psi enough, or should I also get a booster pump?

I had a cheapo ebay unit that failed and would never shut off. I was too dumb to figure it out until after I moved and got a crazy water bill in another house. REALLY stupid on my part was the fact that I could hear water running through the pipes but couldn't figure out what was running. The filter was the only thing I didn't check.

Yeah get one of those shut off valves.

Also, 45 PSI isnt terrible, but I believe (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) you'd get better production with a higher pressure. I think you'd be better with between 65-80PSI.

Yep! Don't you just love how they sell you all those needed things seperately.

FWIW... 45 PSI pressure is good pressure for GA...

you can find areas that are closer to 100 though..

anything under 20 isn't great...

Thanks, I"ll skip the pump for now. I don't really need more production anyway.

Edit:

I know, it's not like they let you know in advance. I can't complain though, it was a "gimme" with a tank I bought from a guy. It's a nice unit actually, so I guess I'll cough up the $12.00. But it would have been nice to know I needed one before I got a $180 water bill:eek:
