First, another huge thanks to everyone, who have been helping me answer questions about getting my first tank.

Second, I got my tank today (a used Biocube with HQI). I'm pretty exceited. Now I have a new series of questions. A friend is letting me have sand from a tank he decided to take down. The sand has been sitting wet in a bucket in my garage for a week now. It will be at least the weekend before I get a chance to setup my new tank. My friend says not to rinse the sand. Thoughts?

Thanks again for helping a newbie!

Well, it was live sand. After a week in a bucket, it's probably not, and I'd imagine smells quite nice, lol. I would rinse it the best you can, and keep in mind your tank will need to cycle before you add any fish (2-6 weeks). Time to start planning what kind of stuff you want in there. The HQI can support any corals you want so it was a great choice.

I would rinse it with saltwater though just to preserve the little life that is left. My 2 cents though and that may be all its worth.

Welcome! I'm guessing I know who this is! Late response but definitely rinse and since a lot of it will be dead you'll have to cycle now even if you bought live rock :) so any ideas on what you're going to start putting in the tank?

Yep, your right about the id  The tank is up a cycling and I think it may stay for that for at least another week. But my liverock came with more 'stuff' than I can count. I think I have some micro serpant stars, a limpet, hair worms, bristle worms and maybe a feather duster. Also, maybe a Majano :o I think that may be going away if I'm right about the id. So, lots of stuff in the tank without anything being in the tank.

I will definately get back with you once I'm able to put something in the tank, but I'm really going to take it slow. Both because of the wallet and because I'm trying to make sure I know what I'm doing!!

Catch you later!!
