Rk vs apx

+1

I do not have the need to control pumps by my phone but a friend of mine does it from his phone. He can control any thing from his. He just goes to the app and tells it to turn off outlet ?? And it does. No one has ever been able to tell me any major functions that apex can do over a RKE. I am very satisfied with mine. And any one I know that has a RKE is very satisfied. They are very easy to learn.
I control anything from lights to ato to heaters and my skimmer neck cleaner that comes on 4 times a day. I hit one button to do a water change (and if I trusted my salinity and pumps etc I could do a water change with the push of one button) so what more could one ask for in a controller? All the most popular things you will ever control already has programs programed in the RKE. Like control the best pumps made and lights.

I have all of that setup. If your friend is able to turn stuff on/off from his phone, then he must be using his browser to do so. To my knowledge there is no new App from DA allowing items to be controlled. Only one made from someone who has a RKE and answers most of peoples questions but not employed by DA.
Apex owners I've visited whip out their phone, hit the App and things start happening.
I travel a lot, so having complete access easily, and quickly is key. I have a iP camera added to my system and with that i can open the App and bingo, live show! I'd like to see DA come up with an App. However, i feel their need to get with the times is nearly none existent. Which is a shame, because I think its a good controller.
Apex is constantly evolving. In turn, their share of the market will go up.

well basically you set up a remote access to your home computer and do it that way i think

Which means you have to have a PC on 247.

Yeah its a problem. My Laptop travels with me! To go buy a new PC to solely use it for a lame access point would be ridiculous!

ive been extremely happy with my rke and it does everything i need it to do[ato,calc.rx,lights,pumps,heaters,skimmer].i even ramp 4 channels of leds individually in increments of 1%[Apex is in 10%].ive no need for remote controlling since im rarely ever away from my reef for long and im just not that into tech[or know how to use it lol].i cant think of one single thing that i need a reef controller to do that my rke cant.

What LED's are you controlling? I assume you are using the light control module.. ALC iirc. I thought it would only control or dim certain types of LED like Radions or the like.

Well all of this talk about the App and controlling things from the App, i decided to open the App. I open it once a day while out of town.
I started messing with the App and now when you click on a Channel. It opens to another screen (like it used too) only know there is a working "Channel" button. Click on that and it does now give control to turn items on/off/auto. I did verify that does work.
The last time i tried this, this option was not there. Its been months since i tried clicking on a channel. I mainly click on the App to check what parameters we can.. Temp, pH, and what lights are supposed to be on.
I had an issue where they would say they were on, but the lights in fact were not on. That was one reason why i added the ip camera.

So, glad i decided to get in on this conversation. It compelled me to dive into the App again to look for updates. :D
I'm liking my RKE a little more at the moment. Hahaha:p

yes,ALC,2 actually.mine are diy crees using meanwell60-48d drivers.it will dim any leds with 0-10v inputs, just like the Apex.only difference is the ALC will dim in increments of 1% instead of 10% increments with the Apex.

Well now its back to a crap controller :D
I plugged in my SID to my RKE to setup my Heater. Noticed MyReef2.0 said there was a Firmware 3.01 available. Did the Update, did the Factory reset, and now no connectivity off my Network.
I hate Firnware updates, I've had more issues with stuff after updates than by leaving them alone.
There went my afternoon! Sit here and try and figure out why this dang thing stopped communicating.
I can see the Net Module using NetServer while on my laptop and connected to my Network. However, from my phone browser, or the MyMobileReef app, i get nothing.

Uhggggg

First off sorry to hear. This is one of the main reason my RKE was removed. After the 10th time of that stupidness I actually threw it in the trash, I was so pissed. Went back to Neptune and never looked back.

Hope you get it going, not have any type of controller feels like going back to the stone ages after having one!

You're telling me. If i didn't live in suburbia, this thing would have been tied up to a tree and shot to death by now. :D
The setup of this thing is horrendous. If you had issues, and you're an IT guy, then yeah i can't be alone in this thought.

Exactly. That was one of my stinks. Computer Science degree, work with Cisco route/switch and VOIP and can't get a stupid controller to do what it is supposed to do.
When I read your post, I had flashbacks of banging that controller against the ground until it came apart (it felt so good when I was done), my wife came running to the basement and thought I was tearing the house down. No baby, just fixing the controller :D

Man and that is how I felt about the Apex! Best thing I ever did was trash that junk apex. ( traded it) I still feel bad for the person I traded it too.
