Rk vs apx

While my lights don't come on until 10% I can ramp past that in any increment I choose. The latest firmware also added sliders for 0-10v signals letting me easily set led channel brightness to anything I choose. But even before the firmware I could do 1% increments.

So to clarify, with the apex the only way to dim DIY LEDs is with the vdm module right? And with the reefkeeper the only way is with alc module? So with either system there's an extra module to get for use with DIY LEDs?

Well after wasting the entire afternoon and evening. This dang thing is back up.
The NetServer was working sketchy last night. Meaning it would work, then not work. Even while on my PC the Server was really slow to connect to the website. Maybe their engineering is the same one ObamaCare has/is using. :sly:
The MyMobileReef app wouldn't show data even after clearly having the settings correct. I know the Net Module was okay setting wise as the email tests went through. Anyway, i gave up on it last night.
Tried the app this morning and neither 1.0 or 2.0 versions of the app worked. I used the 2.0 prior to yesterday's issue. So i decided to try the MultiNet version. That one worked.
So back up and running but not happy it took so long.

The VDM will also control the AI sol. There are new modules out to wirelessly control the new AI lights as well as Ecotech lights.

I've called RK twice in the past two weeks and had to leave a message with a person taking messages. I have yet to receive a call back. As far as I'm concerned, once is a fluke... Twice is a problem.

To be fair, I've never tried calling Apex.

Buy an Apex. Digital Aquatics sucks as a company. I own two ReefKeeper Elite systems, and if I were not so heavily invested in this equipment, I would own Apex. The equipment is OK, but as has already been stated all over the reef keeping world, their Customer Service is cr@p.

Different strokes for different folks. Everyone's gonna always like something different. When I was shopping I always heard more negatives from RK so I went with an Apex. I also travel a lot for work so wanted to be able to monitor my stuff while away from the office. Apex offered that right out of the box so it was a no brainer. I never had issues and if programming ever got complicated there were numerous outlets for help. One thing to consider is Neptune Systems is always coming out with new modules for the ever changing technology for our reefs. I haven't heard of a lot of new RK modules coming out.

The second most important reason not to buy from Digital Aquatics behind No Customer Service. From an innovation and product introduction point of view, they are deader than week old roadkill.

I do have to admit that CS with DA has been just fine with me. Now, granted I haven't called in a year or so.

The DA units are fine units in my experience and the only reef computer I've had, until my Apex is delivered later this week :)

Reef Angel. Price cannot be touched by apex and cost to expand also cannot be touched. Some of the custom code that I have running keeps a tally of the minutes my dosing pumps run and then alerts me on phone when my daily dose is reached. I do the same thing on my ato so I know after my ato pump has run for 80 minutes that it is time to replace the 5g reservoir.

I called DA Customer Service with a question about three weeks ago, got their voicemail, left a message with my tel# for a callback....still waiting. Their Customer service sucks, and continues to suck. Their equipment I own has been reliable, but pray you never have a problem you cannot handle self service via their website.

I loved DA when I first started in reefing in 2008, and they were the brand to own, respected more than Neptune back then. To watch a company like DA disintegrate in a 2-3 year span is terrible, particularly when you own $1800 of their equipment. I have in operation between three tanks (2 reef and one FW tank), 2x RKE Head units, 1x RKL Head unit, 5x SL1 modules, 11x PC4s, a hub module, a remote display module, and several float switches.

I have as much as you Or more. I have 2 RKL and 3 RKE head units, 2 MLC , 2 hubs, 14 PC 4, 2 expansion sockets , 2 alc , 2 sl1 and 2 sl2 with ph and 1 salinity probes. About 20 moon light LEDs. And I am sure I am missing a bunch. I have always had great success in calling them. But sounds like they have changed.

I hope you continue to get good CS from DA, Bruce, really I do.:)

They have changed, IME. When I started seeing the "no customer service" posts on Reef Central and other websites 2-3 years ago, I was like that has to be a fluke...I always get answered and get good help, etc. Then the same bad CS started happening with my calls.

What was the last new product they introduced that had any benefit to their RKE/RKL controller line? Their defective salinity probe about 3 years ago maybe? The one that took another 1.5 years to revamp and replace all the initially defective ones maybe? The only thing DA has done to enhance the RKE product line in the last 3-4 years is put a white backlit display and new color case on the RKE and call it the Platinum Edition.

It would be nice to be able to control a feeder, or program your Vortechs, or one of the many other recent new enhancements Apex has put into their controllers.

EcoTech is going to be in the controller game soon enough with the ReefLink system. Before I make the switch to Apex or ReefLink, I am going to see what develops along that front, since I have several Vortechs and a couple Radion Pros in service right now. Then I'll have a huge DA garage sale.

I Have both system.... (apex full, reef keeper2).
And my experience so far, Apex is better. My temp&ph is not same on either unit.
However, I never called either companies for customer service so I can't chime in on that.

Both connected with Reef keeper as Main connection to the wall.
