RO/DI System Help

Good to know you got some water till it get's figured out at least. I should have some time this weekend if you still need something.

in that diagram, when you look at the ASV, you've got to set it up so that the [visual pass through holes are at the bottom] and the [non visual pass through holes are at the top]...

if you've got it setup like this.. then take it off, switch it around (rotate along the vertical axis so that the pass through holes are still going straight across the bottom) and re-connect it..

Edit: check that...

it sounds like your ASV is either backwards, or there's something wrong within your RO Housing..

I've got it set up so that the visual pass through is first in line. When I turn on the water, ALL I get is waste water.

swap it left to right.. keeping the pass through on the bottom...

so that the upper right connector is in the upper left position..

Switching from left to right would mean I'm putting the feed tube into the "out" on the valve. Is that What you're suggesting? As it stands now, I have the first tube from the pre-filters going into the valve and on to the RO. Then the waste line goes outside and the other line from that end of the RO goes to the "in" of the valve (which is closed off for now). That tube goes up to the DI and then eventually into my top off reservoir.

Again, I ask...can I run a couple new lines that BYPASS the auto shut off valve?

sure.. you can bypass it..

(you can always bypass something)

but if you do that, then you'll have to shut off the water supply to the RODI in order to stop the system from constantly shooting water out the waste line (which I guess you're doing now, anyway)

if it's plumbed correctly, (in and out of the ASV) then you've got an issue with your RO membrane/housing...

Edit:
RUGDOG65;614485 wrote: heck yeah...shut off isnt required. just prevents a flood. take it off and run it.

ASV doesn't prevent a flood, it prevents water from continuously running out of the drain line.. (assuming the setup is typical in that there is a ball valve on the end of the "filtered water" line)

For now, I'll bypass it just to get my ATO reservoir filled back up. I'm still confused about the post above suggesting I switch it from left to right. Does how I explain the layout make sense?

Note to self: make plenty of RO before changing filters and membrane, just in case.

This is seriously a scenario I'd never given much thought... not trying to act holier-than-thou. Hope it didn't come across that way.

I didn't realize that your ASV had marks (in/out) on it... mine doesn't, so I thought you could have it backwards..

OK, I bypassed the ASV and now I'm getting water again. The problem is, it's coming out at 18ppm according to my in-line TDS. Could I have somehow dirtied my membrane through this whole thing? I guess the ASV was the problem?

I'm I OK to top off with this water you think?

Edit: It's been running for a while now and the TDS is down to 3. Must have gotten backed up or something, somehow. I guess I'll order another ASV, but I'm considering just turning the unit on every now and again to refill my reservoir. I've heard somewhere it's bad for the unit to be constantly turning on and off anyway.
