Ok, so I have a dual in line TDS meter i have had for around a year now. I just took a couple buckets of water out of my holding trash can to put closer to my tanks for easier top-off and i checked the meter and its saying this....

TDS IN - 34
TDS OUT - 44-50

My question is simple... is there something wrong with the meter? Also, I just recently added a DI canister with fresh DI along with two new filters before the RO. What could be causing the "increase" in bad stuff?

Cory...don't know what's causing that reading but as a safe measure...I'd see if you could borrow a hand-held TDS to compare. At least before you do anything drastic.

Hmm, Yea, I suppose that would work... and what were you thinking drastic? lol

Had the RO been running when you checked the meter? I know if we shut off the RO for any reason, when we fire it back up again, the TDS on the output shows a reading for a few minutes, then returns to zero.

How old is the membrane?

You might want to back-flush the unit too, that might help also.

But yes, checking the results with another TDS meter might show that it's a meter issue.

The membranes were replaced when i bought the DI set up. This was late January early February.

So I figured out my problem. Turns out r
it was the ro/di unit itself. And more specifically, the di portion.

I bought the di canister, resin, etc. From brs in February. I looked at the resin inside the canister and noticed that the resin was discolored at the top and at the bottom it's virtually 'clean'. So I figured that the resin at the top is leakin back in to the good water making it dirty again. What would make the resin at the top change and not the bottom? I rigged a solution and dumped the food resin seperately from the bad, refilled the good back in and put the bad back in on the bottom. Got it down to about 6ppm. Tho I prolly should get more di resin to completely solve the problem. So why would it do this and should I notify BRS about the incident?

Sure. They may have an answer and solution for ya. Great catch though.

Ok, I'll send them an email in a bit. Heck it took me till today from the time i posted this thread originally.. on the 26th of may lol

i just had a feeling my TDS meter wasn't messed up. maybe not calibrated right but not that messed up lol

we'll see what BRS says.

If the top of the resin changed before the bottom I would check to see if the flow is going the right way. It should come in on the outside then up from the bottom of the resin container. Also check the top seal for gouges or torn places.

Hope that helps

Checked it, when i opened it and changed the resin out.. or more liked switched it. I sent BRS an email and we will see what it says. Also the cartridge was put in the right way and I couldn't see any tears or anything of that sort, also it look to seat fine. but since i changed it, i am sure i will see some sort of result. either good or bad in these next few weeks concerning color change.
