Just bought the 75 gpd Plus system from BRS and installed this evening. All seemed to go well until I turned it on. Water is leaking from the seam of the 'white cylinder' that sits horizontally on top of the unit (I think this is the membrane). Anyway, all of this was pre-built when I got the unit so I'm not sure if I could be doing something wrong but I'm not sure how I could.

Anyway, luckily I did install the main valve to shut the unit off so it's not flooding me out, but I am a bit miffed that the unit seems to be broken on arrival.

Is there anything I can do to check that seal? It does not seem that I can tighten it, but maybe I am missing something.

Thanks for the help.

You said "seam". That is the DI unit. It's a molded piece of plastic and that seam is probably where the two molds met. If it's not leaking at any connection and really is in the seam, there is nothing you can do about it but call them tomorrow and have them send a new DI membrane to you. You should be able to bypass it and just get RO water in the meantime.

Pics help too.

I thought the DI was the last cylinder with the 'dark' resin inside. This is leaking before it gets to that point. Water comes in, fills all 3 of the hanging RO cylinders, then when it runs into the opaque white cylinder that sits above the other 3 it leaks at the seam where it looks like you might open it to change the membrane. Water has yet to reach the 4th cylinder (which I thought was the DI). I have tried to twist the white housing to see if I could unscrew it and reset it, but it does not want to turn (nor do I know how to properly open it).

Apologies if I am not describing this well. This is my first RO/DI unit.

BTW, here is teh unit I bought. The leak is happening just above their logo on the white frame.

Yeah, it looks like it is not seated exactly right, but I must be the weakest person the planet because I can't get it to budge. Normally this is where I would turn to some tools, but don't want to scratch it all up in case I have to return it.

At this point I am just really glad that I put the shut-off valve in.

YES!!! Finally got that mutha off. I guess 2 hours of on and off trying finally loosened it up.

FWIW, there are 2 seals inside the membrane canister, 1 on the threads and 1 on the cap itself. The one on the cap apparently came lose when they were assembling and it was not allowing the cap to tighten completely. Fixed is and all seems to be well now.

Regardless, thanks for the help and I think I need to get a gym membership before I have to change the membrane out.
