rock scaping

Getting ready to start setting up my rock in my 180.Anyone with some pics of there set up.Got 2 overflows 6" from both sides, was going to stack up agaist them.Dose anyone use there back glass, or they try to get flow.Pics would be nice.Not going to copy, just looking for ideas.:jumpy:

I have nothing against the back glass, I did stack against the overflows though.

heres what I did last time... this is still in half my tank.. the other side is also "fixed now".

I've always come from the perspective that you wan't your CORALS to make up a LOT of the scape... the rocks are just there to hold them in place...

Like you said where your rock.How come my rock didnt come with all those sps corals on them.Im taken em back,LOL.In my 90,I have a big clump of bubble alge.Hey, but the sps grow good with them.

How about two islands with an open space in the middle?

Here's how mine was, but I just tore it down to redo the tank...

Once caution is that if you have fish that like protected areas, the really open bonsai style might not provide them with enough shelter to be comfortable. That's one of the reasons I'm reworking the tank. I'll still keep a fairly open look, but I'm planning to double the amount of rock and make sure I provide protected areas.

Try to avoid stacking against the back glass. Makes it hard to recover/remove anything that may fall or die back there. Also place the rock directly on the bottom and add sand after the rock is in place. This way if any sandsifting creatures move the sand later it won't undermine the structure and cause a collapse.

You should have put the rock in before sand.If you have a avalanche and that rock comes down.LOL

I was thinking about that.Its going to be a mixed reef.Mostly sps.But i got a few lps and very few soft that i have had for many yrs.Might have three islands.

I used 10 sticks of epoxy to glue it to the bottom glass. Tied of diamond gobies getting under.

You got that right.My first two tanks, rock was on the sand.This one rock on glass.

Sorry for the crappy lighting but my phone doesn't take the best photos. I do like stacking rock though and mine is very open for great water flow.

I should probably add that I have 2 shelving units on the side of my tank so you can only see the front 6" of my tank when looking at an angle (hence why I stacked on the glass towards the sides). Gives it that poor mans built in look.

yours is stacked like mine.... sorta like stonehenge. Great flow, just have to blow the detridus out from the back/bottom every couple of weeks/month
