I need to get an RODI unit and have been looking on ebay for new units. Typically, they are $110 or more.

But I found this vendor and he has six stage filters for between $60-70.

Shipping is $37 so that brings the avg price to about $100.

Anyone have experience with this vendor and off-brand RODI units? Also, is there anything particular that I should be wary of from a technology perspective?

If that's the same one I bought from the Filterguys it's a great product at a geven better price. I bought a TDS meter from them also well worth the additional $. I can't see any Ebay stuff here at work, computer nazi's don't permit it but from the price it sounds like the same one.

i have seen threads like this and from what i read the ebay ones are pieces of s hit. There manufactured in china or some place like that and make like a ton a day. The prob also with ebay is , is it easy to get replacement parts? I got mine at a LFS for $120 the main reason i bought it there is because the have all the replacement filters etc. Also
a> is good, i dont have one but i hear they are great and easy to get replacement parts.

I have one from the purewaterclub. I have made probably 600 gallon or more already..Tested the water when I got it and all came out to less than 10 TDS with my meter. I highly recommended.

Most RO/DI produce a TDS reading of almost 0, you might want to check your filters.

I can check again when I get home tonite..But I know when I checked the tap water I was getting like 50 TDS and after the filter I was getting like 4-6 (not sure on the number).

Thanks for the comments guys.

Chris, where'd you get yours locally? 6 stage?

Also, I searched through his feedback, he has 8 negative and 4 withdrawn. The two negative ones I found were because they thought it came with stuff it did not...I could see in the price that the tank and nozel were not included but I don't want that anyway.

I have the 100gpd 6stage one with the clear filter housings and 2 DI canisters, awesome unit IMO.

Yup- I'd also highly recommend thefilterguys.com ...

Yup- I've always had a 0 TDS reading on every RO/DI I've had and at every location I've lived. Flyingarmy is right- you might want to check your filters...

From the ebay seller I posted? How do your TDS tests come out?

I have a Typhoon system from Air, Water & Ice, Inc: http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1TYPHOON">http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1TYPHOON</a> Great system that uses standard size filter canisters and replacements. They also sell the bulk DI resin filling kits which you can also get from Two Part Solutions.

Two observations about those units on eBay:

Get one with clear filter housings. It's much easier to see when your pre-filters are getting dirty instead of having to take the canister off to see.

Most of the 100+ gpd membranes I have seen have lower rejection rates than 75 or lower. I'm sure there are ones with high rejection rates, but odds are you'll plow through resin with the cheap eBay filters.

And agreed, post DI stage, your TDS should be zero or perhaps 1 if you can't rely on the absolute cleanliness of your testing container.

I don't use that ro/di system but mine is from ebay and has performed just fine for the 5 months I've had it. Tds of 0. Everyone uses the same basic parts...

There's nothing wrong with buying one on eBay. Mine came from Air, Water & Ice's eBay store. Just be sure you get a decent unit. I'm sure it's not a huge cost, but I notice they don't use the clear housings and the DI housing is non-standard size. Again, not a big deal and it's a convenience item, but a cost cutter I'm sure.

It looks like the DI cartridge can be refilled, so if you're on a budget, I'd say give it a shot.

I got mine from Pets unlimited in marietta , its next to microcenter "they recently moved there." It is a 4 stage. but when i bought mine they had others to choose from. Please call to make sure they have them before you travel there.

Make sure that it uses the standard size filters. I bought one off Ebay about 3 years ago, but it used some oddball sized filter that was only available from them and the filter set cost around $100. I wound up buying one from Melevsreef.com because I knew he would back it up if anything went wrong.

i got mine off ebay from filterdirect.com
works great, came with the storage tank and a faucet for straight ro drinking water. $110 for the one i got.
we had a meeting last year where we tested tds in water before and after our ro units. my water was one of the worst but after the ro unit, came out very close to the top of the list. very good unit!! at the date tested, i was in need of some di resin-mine was about burnt out!!

some one might have the results of this or you might could search for it on here. i do believe they were posted.

Can't beat $100 for an RO/DI unit,
I had that same 1 over 1.5 year now and are loving it. I brought a replacement from them also.

I say my money are well spend on that unit.

Output (DI) from a RODI in good working order should be 0 or 1 ppm tds.
