RODI/TDS question

I got an Optima RODI unit from a guy who said that there had probably only been 100 gallons run through new filters. My question is my TDS meter reads 045 in and 035 out, is this acceptable?

Also, my input pressure is way less than 40 according to the pressure gauge, do I need to install a booster pump, and if so, what are the advantages?

You're TDS out is not acceptable. You should be reading 0 out. Did the unit sit for some time before being placed back in service? I would replace all of the pre-filters in the unit (the DI may still be good). The lower the PSI in, the slower the unit will process water. A booster pump certainly wouldn't hurt. What that will do is get you closer to the rated output of the unit. Most are designed to operate at 50-55 psi. I run mine around 80-90psi and get almost double it's intended output a day.

Yep. Assuming it hasn't been damaged in some way, 35 TDS out after 100 gallons ain't gonna happen... unless you are filtering water from mudholes.

Low pressure will also impact the water quality . If you have a pressure regulator on your water supply to your home ,you may be able to connect to the supply pre regulator instead of post regulator which will more than likely boost your operating pressure for the unit.

Just make sure you turn the water off at the meter.

How do you check the street pressure?

Some houses actually have a hose bib before the regulator and you can check them there with a gauge from HD. If not and you are not experienced with plumbing then one should hire a plumber. The Booster pump is probably cheaper if that is the case.
