anyone use the Salifert Mag test kit? I am placing a BRS order and need a new kit but kind want to try something new - been using the seachem mag test and its not that user friendly and expensive

I also have the Elos Option as well - which is better? or lets say, which is easier to use and most accurate?

I don't think you'd go wrong with either, Gary. Both are well thought of, I think. Saliert had an accuracy issue with one of their kits from a bad batch, KH I think, but that was a good while ago. I've never had an issue with any reading that seemed way off base.

I use all Salifert (KH/Ca/Mag). Most Salifert kit directions are like this: put 2 or 4 ml of water in a tube, put a few drops of #1 indicator in, then 1 scoop of
#2 powder, then draw up 1 ml of #3 liquid in a 1 ml syringe. Add #3 drop by drop until the color changes from pink to blue or blue to pink. Then match the volume reading on the syringe to a chart on the instructions to get your reading. Not difficult once you get used to it.

I actually ordered the Elos, it was about the same price and I was placing a BRS order anyway...maybe i just like the look of the box :D

anything has to be easier than the seachem one - i got it used and free so i think it was missing peices so I cant wait for this one to get in.

I'm with you on the un-userfriendliness of the Seachem test. I mean you need to be a chemist to work that thing (not really but it feels involved).

I'm also not a fan of how faint the colors are ... but I've got like 60 tests left with these kits so I'm using em.

The saliferts have very distinct color change.

I use all salifert kits. I especially like the Mg kit - quick and easy.

Elos or Salifert..........I use Elos because I was one of those recipients of those many bad batches of KH test kits from Habib. That was like 5 years ago, though.

The color change on all the Salifert kits is good IMO. The color change on the Seachem Total Alk is horrible, Blue to Yellow...

The Seachem Mag test is entirely too involved. I tested the Salifert and Seachem Mag tests side by side several test and they were always close to each other and the Salifert test is SOOOOOO easy.

The Salifert calcium test is much easier to use than the Seachem one too (no mixing the sample with RODI water and no powder in the Salifert test).

I have found both the Seachem and Salifert tests to very reliable and repeatable.
