I need advice on what some of you store opened bags of salt in to prevent it from clumping. I've tried several containers and none have stopped it. Thanks for any suggestions.
I have never had any clumping with Salinity buckets... Is it the bucket or the salt? I have several of the buckets... They twist on and have an oring so no condensation.... You can have one to try, if you have not.
I use the 200g reef crystals. So, four 50g bags. I've tried small buckets made for food storage. They have screw-on lids with gaskets but I still get clumping.
I had clumping issues , I rubber band the bag up and put it in a styrofoam cooler.
That stopped the clumping.
I use reef crystal usually buy it by the box.
Rc and io always clumps in my house but salinity doesnt... but if I open the bags and pour into the salinity bucket it clumps anyway. But I have to run a dehumidifier and keep it at 50% to prevent clumping so you should check into that.
I use the io 200 gallon box never had a problem with clumping I fold the bag tightly like a big bag of chips and clamp it closed with two utility clamps
When I purchased a box of 200 gallons IO salt some time ago I got it in sealed bags, however the bags were solid as a rock and when I mixed them seems like the calcium tend to precipitate inside my mixing container, all I was doing at the moment I was using it for water changes was to dump all the residues from the bottom of the mixing container to my tank and I never had a problem with that for keeping the parameters at level. The only thing I never did was to compare the amount of that salt used to make a batch of water versus a newer fresh bag of salt, but if my tank was looking happy I wasn't worry about it.
From what I'm reading here salinity is the way go next time. Only run nanos and always bought water as I didn't need much. I do things differently than most as I do a daily water change which is now up to about 2 1/2 gallons a day. Hauling jugs got to be a big hassle really quick.
