Sand Sifting Goby

I have always had diamond gobys but i have had a dragon goby for about 6 months now and he does a pretty good job.

I just bought a ghost sand sifter Tuesday. In QT now. Looks just like the Diamond without the diamonds... Well, that means, it's all white. Not too happy about being on a BB tank, but, it's sifting food just the same. Only going to QT this one for a week as not to cause any stress from having no sand...

Pretty active, but, I've seen some brab a mouth full of sand, and swim around while they sift. This means some will cover your rocks and coral with sand. Some just sift while they are on the sand, and don't make a mess...

I'm a diamond goby guy myself. They do an awesome job.

As mentioned, with ANY goby, you need a cover as they will jump. Mesh is better than egg crate. I lost 2 gobies, one to eggcrate (made it out but not back in) and another to a 1.5" gap between my glass covers. It's like they have great aim or something.

I love my diamond goby. He keeps the sand very clean, but he does litter sand all over the place. Usually he's on the bottom, but I'm always surprised where I find sand scattered. He also burrows under rocks and makes sand mounds to his liking, but no problems so far. It's fun to watch him move snails/hermits around because he wants to sift the sand underneath them. He just picks them up in his mouth, and sets them down somewhere else. Very busy all the time.

FYI - When the goby was in quarantine, I put a tupperware container with sand in it, just so he had something to play with.

Makes sense. I lost to yellow watchmens in the past and don't want that to happen again. I have a canopy but I will need to add a mesh cover over the overflow and 2 fan vent holes. I've read people using some screen mesh from Lowes for that?

Off topic but my sand star seems to do a good job, I also have two huge "fancy Nassarius" that churn alot of sand
