sand storms

i just set my tank up 2 weeks ago and my nitrates and nitrites have seam to get stuck and stay at the same point for the last 4 days but it started teh cycle pretty quick what could have caused this both are at 1.0ppm and have stayed there and i seeded with my old sand and added new sand
thats one question and the other question is evertime i move the rock or do anything in the tank ti starts a sand storm and it didnt do this the last time i used this sand in my 50gallon the only thing i added was crushed coral sand

lol ok let me start over,
first i have a question about my tank cycling because it had started and teh ammonia has allready been coverted over and has fallen back down to 0ppm my nitrites are at 1.0ppm and my nitrates are at 20ppm and have sayed there for about 4 days but when the ammonia converted over it only took about 2 days to do that is there something wrong that is causing the cycle to hold up?

ares;383022 wrote: the old sand probably had bacteria in it. Which is processing the ammonia efficiently, but the nitrite bacteria isnt quite keeping up. The source of it all is probably die off and trapped crap that was in the sand, or in rock if you added that as well. Give it some time and it should settle and become more stable.

As for the sand storm. With time your sand will... Well... Get heavier... Bacteria or something will grow on it, and fine fine particles may even dissolve or settle to the bottom of the bed. All will help decrease sand storms.

The new sand you added may also be of a finer grain? Its possible anyway.
