Save money

Unless you are an experienced glass tank builder, or experienced working with acrylic, it is probably a very bad idea to build your own tank.

A leaking SW tank can do thousands of dollars damage to the area around it.

For the cost of glass and materials to build you own, you could probably buy a profesionally built used one off the ARC FS Forum or Craigslist for the same amount.

Two ARC Sponsors build custom tanks, Chris at FishScales and My Reef Creations. Almost any other ARC Sponsor can get you a new tank if you decide to go that route.

silveradositn has a really good deal on an 185. Might look at getting that. But like acro said, unless you have experience doing it. It is hard.

Fishscales can also get you a new tank as well as build you one. Didn't want to imply he ONLY builds aquariums. He is a regular Reef Store in addition to being a custom tank builder.

And if you buy new you should have a warranty along with it.
If you want to save a few bucks keep an eye out on the Drygoods and Livestock forum for people selling theirs.

Here's the FS AD for the 185. It is a steal of a deal.

Used tanks can be picked up so cheaply that building your own would be a needless waste.

There are some incredible deals running around on used tanks right now. I have a bunch for $1 per gallon. One reason to go new would be custom size or Starfire glass.

BTW I am breaking down my Oceanic 120 RR if you are intrested, has 40 gal sump with stand and canopy
