Saving the reef (14g biocube)

Good question - I'd like to start with some ricordea and branching frogspawn .. I'm a fan of various Favia, brains, and branching leathers for sps's. Once the tank is stable - upgrade the lights right now the 2 moonlight led's are dead. Still thinking on that..

Edit: Err LPS's :)

Day 5

Found new life a Nassarius Snail .. :)

Had to clean the back wall.

I removed one rock as the more I looked at it it was not real it was some homemade piece. I notice as decrease in water level is now producing micro bubbles. I believe its from the water breaking in chamber 2 and carrying into the return chamber. Temp is solid at 78 haven't tested the water.

More to come ...

Your pump is likely pulling in air due to the water level being to low (if you can see the pump exposed to air in chamber 3, this a dead giveaway.)

You will have to replace the water with more that has the specific gravity (salinity) adjusted accordingly. Happens in my biocube if I neglect to top off (add freshwater to replace water that has evaporated) for a couple days.

Thanks you are so right.. ok added about a half gal of water and bubbles gone :)

The water looks much clearer todhay after removing the algae and changing the filter.

Not much to report - the tank is clearing up nicely - I've seen the nassarius exploring. Going to clean out the remaining algae, just some little pieces from cleaning the back wall.

May look at building a small cleaning crew towards the end of the week.

More to come :)

Day 12 - Circulation Pump!!

Tested the water -

Ammo: 0.25ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 0ppm

I cleaned up / sucked out all the dead dying algae in the sand bed and around the rock. I'd like to get a nice scooter blenny. I'll check the levels Monday - I'm going to do a 4 gallon water change and change the filters from the move / cycle.

The scooter dragonet won't do well in that tiny of a tank without supplemental foods. Unless you get one to eat prepaired food. Even then you'll need to feed a lot.

You're right - the many that I've had, have been in much larger tanks. I'll focus on getting a small clean up crew and then plan on corals and such.

Thanks :)

I added a scooter dragonet to mine it is doing great on the pods I have in there and i just ordered 3 bags of pods/myisis mix to go in the tank and sump to keep it eating till it decides to try pellets .

I think once this tank is settled and has good growth / life in it. I'll find a nice blenny. Last night we visited Rit and had my water tested to compare - and all levels are on the mark with the exception of salinity I'm at 1.030 and should be at 1.024. I'm going to do a 2gl water change that should fix it.

Should be ready this week to start the new reef hunt!!

I've Gotta say - it was hard to resist last night - Rit's store is amazing!!

We did come out of there with a Turbo - Named "Slugs-Worth" ..

Mexican .. Turbo .. American .. likes to eat... Algae .... when... I .... wanna .. cuz .. I .. can .. :)

Last night I paid a visit to one of our club members "Kamikaze" and picked up some great new additions!!

Here they are:

Everyone is doing great - I'm going to feed this afternoon.. Seems the snails and crabs are checking out the new tank mates :)

Thanks again Mike -
