I added the scopus tang about 2 months ago. From the beginning the clowns where picking at the scopus. I knew he would get picked at initially. Now the clown and the purple and yellow tang are harrasing it. The pair clown will not let up nor will the yellow tang. So I'm think about getting rid of the clowns. Which one would you get rid of? The clowns or the yellow tang? I think once one of these fish are gone, the harassment will stop.:yay:

You're better off getting rid of the scorpus. Even with the clowns gone, the other tang will probably still be aggressive

I have been able t successfully add new tangs to a tank full of other agressive tangs by making copies of the new fish and taping them to the glass for a week. It distracts the agressive fish from the new addition.

Miami, great idea and it often works well.

Multiple tangs will take a system much larger than 90 gal. Especially when they all have the exact same shape. They will (if under 3") survive for a year or so but eventually the tangs will battle for territory and the smaller weaker one will succumb. (most likely the Scopas, kinda sounds like whats happening now) If these tangs are over 3" than it may be time to rehome either the Yellow or Purple. (I would go with the Yellow as the Purple is your favorite)

I am not trying to criticize your choices (in fact I adore each of those fish and have them in several tanks that I maintain) just expressing what I have learned through my experiences. If I were the tang police I would have been SHOT years ago. I had close to 20 tangs in my 300 at one point.

One other thing you can try is pulling the yellow and purple for a week and drop into a QT tank or sump. Allowing the Scopas to strengthen and heal, both physically and emotionally.lol He will gain a sense of confidence IMO and become bolder. When you add the larger tangs back in they will most likely be much more chilled. For a while at least.

Every time the scopus gets harassed and ran off, it comes back for more continuously. It has not given in yet!!!! The purple tang does not harassed him as much as the yellow tang. It's the !!##@% clowns...... that are cause the most pain....

Edit:

Excellent ideal. How long did this last?

I've got the same group in my tank... scopas, yellow, purple, clown pair..

mine play around a little but they don't fight like they did when first thrown into the system...

They're all doing well, but take the advice from Chris. If your tank isn't big enough, I wouldn't keep too many tangs together. Although I have successfully added new tangs to my sea of tangs, they do battle for territory often and I have a 300 gal. Have plenty of hiding spaces for them also.
