I purchased a Seachem kit because my API kit was showing a high ammonia reading, and API tends to be sketchy.

I cannot seem to master the art of reading the little yellow disc. I've waited 30 minutes and the disc is not completely yellow, it has a some greenish speckles that are fairly close to the .1 ammonia color.

I'm used to API and Salifert kits that have an absolute color to them.

Do the speckles indicate a positive ammonia reading?

Thanks JBDreefs. I suppose the Prise dose lowered the ammonia level to .1. I like the Seachem tests ability to measure ammonia in the toxic and converted form.

I used this test when my tank was cycling. When the ammonia is high, the whole disk will turn green and it doesn't take 10 minutes.

Adding Prime won't change the result of the test, the ammonia will still be there, and register, it just won't be as toxic.

Usually the disc changes to a uniform colour. Make sure your tweezers weren't dirty, that can cause the "speckles".

Thanks Jenn, I give them a good cleaning. It looked as if the disks were actually yellow in the sample until I picked them up with tweezers.
