Ok, im setting up this 14g nano and i put the heater in the tank and the way the tank is made i ran the heater wire out of the back of the top of the tank and there is a slit cut in the back of the top so a wire can run through there. my question is the heater wire is up agains the plastic splash guard that is built in to the top and i just wanna make sure that this isnt going to cause a fire or anything i mean the lights are PC's so i just want to be on teh safe side

I agree w/Barbara to test it out with you in the room, but you sould be fine. I have a 14g Biocube and have my heater in the 1st chamber and the cord comes out that same hole and touches the plastic. The wire itself should not get hot like the heater.

o yeah i could put the heater in the chamber itself i didnt even think about that haha. I have it stuck on the side of the glass in the tank itself.

Man im retarted haha

Tonester_man has a better suggestion on where to put the heater. Infact I think I am going to move mine this evening when I get home. Thanks for helping me out too.

yeah i cant put mine down in there the water level isnt very high at least i didnt think it was haha but waht do i know i just set it up today

Depending on the size of your heater it might be best to put it in the 1st chamber where the overflows goes into. The water level is higher and you don't have to worry about the heater being out of the water due to evaporation. I have an auto top off so as long as I keep it full of water my water level doesn't drop in the third chamber w/the pump.

what type of nano do you have?

My friend has one that she doesn't even keep a heater in it and the tank water stays at 78ish

When you say 'slit', I hope you did not run the wire through the surface skimmer.

my friend has the same size, i think, and she doesn't even use a heater..... but it's all contingent on your home....

haha no not the surface skimmer is a little notch cut I'm the lid of the tank on the back side there is one on the back left for the return pump cord and one on the right side I guess for whatever u need it for
