I did a water change today, and I just checked the salinity and specific gravity...

My salinity is reading 37
SG -- 1.27

Its never been that high before, just not sure now how to adjust it or should I just leave it alone?

I hope someone is up this late!

What are you checking it with? Hydrometers will give you different numbers by brand, clealiness and lifespan (wear).
Borrow a refractometer. If that's what you are using then check it again in the am and change out a little water (gallon at a time) and add straight ro slowly to balance it out

You type so much faster than me:eek:

Ha! Sorry...you are right...its 1.027.

I was about a gallon evaporated and swore that I would not top off leaving enough for the RODI, but failed...then freaked...I just wanted to make sure it wasnt going to kill everything off tonight...

Thanks again!:yay:

I'm just using a cheap marine depot refractometer...do you guys calibrate with just RODI or do you buy the solution some companies offer?

Man I don't have enough hair left to be freaking out for the both of us.

RO, but from a brand new unit. Get the fluid from someone. They sell it such quantities that anyone has enough to share or sell you for a dollar menu cheeseburger. It goes a long way

Wow! It is late. Thanks for reminding me.
See you guys in a few hours.

I am in Sugar Hill just down the road, I have the same refractometer and I have the calibration fluid. I will pm you my number, next time you are over this way drop by and I will give you some of the fluid.

John,
I would calibrate with calibration solution instead of RO/DI. You'll get a more accurate reading.

Also, if there is a topic you are seeking information on, you can do a Search under that topic. Many times you'll get the answer there. The Search function is in the upper right of the home page.
