i know that an MP40 is very powerful and one would say that it can do the job.

but here is my tank situation...

it's a 24 x 24 x 18 tank. I have an overflow in the back middle of the tank. I put the MP40 on the right back side of the overflow. Rock in the middle. I can't turn the MP40 to full strength b/c it would cuz a sandstorm and just be too much flow. therefore, i feel the left side of my tank does not have enough flow.

i'll attach a few pictures, but i'm wondering if i should look into switching to two MP20s instead. so that i can have one on each side of the overflow. also, i'm putting the MP's on the back side of the tank, instead of the SIDE of the tank, to try and preserve the whole "rimless" look.

Here's what I would do, personally. Your tank looks pretty new if those pictures are recent. Do you have any (or plan on getting) 2-part for dosing? If so, take the alkalinity part and use a turkey baster on that side of the tank with the Vortech as high is you can get it without causing issue. That stuff is so milk white, you should be able to see what kind of flow you have over there. My guess is, you're fine and you could always "ruin" the look and move your pump to one side if you needed to. Then again, it's your $$$! :)

Timmy, Tex is right - try to see what kind of flow you actually have on that side of the tank.

the main thing i'm worried about are dead spots that might cause algae to grow. do yall think a good clean up crew would take care of that though?

A good amount of astreas will help, no doubt. Another alternative is to just get a Tunze nanostream (6025). They are really quite small and will move 600gph!

Moving it to the side of the tank should fix that problem.

I like a ribbon on the handle end of a net or a stick. Put it in the tank and move it all over the place. The ribbon will show you how good your flow is at each point. Don't know what you are planning for this tank, but keep in mind that some corals like lower flow!

that's a good idea.

I had a tank the same dimensions. I honestly think I'll be happier w 2 mp20s working together.

IMHO, you would be fine with 2 MP10's in there, and they're smaller and even less intrusive than the 20s. And selling the MP40 would almost pay for the 2 10's.
