Shut off Valve Question

If you hook up an Auto-Shut off Valve correctly. Should it still be taking in water? As in more water keeps coming in from the faucet? Or should the production of waste water be stopped all together?

I believe some water will still pass through the membrane...

When my storage tank becomes pressurized, so it is equal to my pipe pressure, all water stops in my system...

Edit. It stops pretty abruptly, so I am assuming there is some sort of mechanism that causes it to stop, such as a spring loaded cut off similar to a radiator cap...I am unsure however.

should stop all together. If you are still making waste water something is wrong.
