Ok. So my skimmer is still on the fritz and I decided to take it off. Before I ask this question let me give ya'll some details about my setup. I have a 24 gallon reef tanks with a 150 watt Sunpod Halide and I use an Eheim 2213 and an Aquaclear 50 for filtration loaded with carbon, purigen, effisubstrat, effifilav and phosgaurd. I only have 2 fish, a percula and an engineer goby. With the skimmer being on the fritz, should I run a skimmer with such a small bioload? I'm thinking about making a refugium out an Aquaclear again in its place.

If you keep up with your WC you would be ok for a little while without one. Clams generally like a little nitrate (I take it you have 1 or more based on your sig) as long as it's not overdone.

I'm still wondering what you mean on the fritz?

All kinda information has been given, but its all worthless at this point..

What's the skimmer doing/not doing? What do you want it to do?

I'm getting alot of fine bubbles in th tanks all the sudden. Technically it's working but it's annoying.

So your getting micro bubbles in the tank. I have never had any luck putting a skimmer on the back of a tank for that reason. So I must say I am of no help. I am sure someone can help you out on this issue though.

For at least some time, yes. Permanently? Not without disciplined maintenance, and even then IMO you are headed for problems down the road. There will be people who disagree with that.

Like I stated, you'll be fine for awhile just keep up with your WC. Some folks do it without a skimmer so you would not be alone. An Aquaclear is good. If you go that route, use carbon and Matrix or LR rubble.

Did the height or balance of your skimmer get altered to create more bubbles? How about the valve...did it get turned? Also check your lines and make sure they are not blocked. Just a few ideas. You could get a bubble trap but they don't eliminate 100%.

maybe put a sponge or some sort of screen where the skimmer return line is in the tank.

Yes. Just do a lot of good sized water changes.

I would do 5g weekly or even 15g/month and you'll be fine.

Make sure you keep the CA up for the clams and post pics!

Check the members tanks. I'm there.
