skimmer pump

I need a new skimmer pump I have a psk 2500 and was about to order another but I keep reading bad reviews on it. Dose anyone have any recommendations on a different pump in about the same price range?

Bubble blasters are killer for the price.

If price is not an object, Bubble king or Red Dragon pumps.

I'm very happy with the newer Sicce PSK1000. Avast Marine sells them with a venturi for around $110.

The bubble blasters are nice just not in the budget. I think im gonna try the psk and see what happens

I believe this is the model that is comparable to the psk1000, although I don't think they compare personally.

+1 on bubble blaster pump, I have a free of charge volute replacement because the screws on it start to rust, another member has the same problem and they did the same with him, I like them because of the low power they drawn and the impeller is big, compared with another ones that I have seen, the size of the pins on the impeller are a factor when it comes to produce of foam and size of the microbubbles, not saying that's the only reason for getting good skimmate, to many other things play the roll on it, deep of the skimmer, skimmer chamber, temperature changes, bioload, broken in time of a new or recently washed skimmer, and some others that I don't remember now.

If I'm not recalling wrong there is a member here that swear that bubble blaster pump are POS but one in a ten talks much better of the pump itself, then in my experience, costumer service was great.

I would make sure whatever pump you buy is a proper match for the skimmer body. Personally, I would probably go with a like replacement myself, unless there is a proven base of reefers that have successfully used a different model pump than the one that comes with the skimmer from the manufacturer.

It would be very easy to buy a pump that has too much flow, not enough flow, etc, particularly if you are basing your choice on finding one that has a similar price only. How do you know if the volute from your skimmer would even match a different pump, if you see what I mean? Skimmer bodies are matched to certain pumps for the best operation. Buy an incorrect one for your skimmer body and you have a poorly operating skimmer and wasted money on the wrong pump.
