It would be very easy to buy a pump that has too much flow, not enough flow, etc, particularly if you are basing your choice on finding one that has a similar price only. How do you know if the volute from your skimmer would even match a different pump, if you see what I mean? Skimmer bodies are matched to certain pumps for the best operation. Buy an incorrect one for your skimmer body and you have a poorly operating skimmer and wasted money on the wrong pump.
