I got to ask this. It been bugging me for sometime now.

How often do you turn off your skimmer? Do you turn it off every time you feed your tank or you keep it running?

Seem like every time I feed the tank my skimmer go nuts and have to start all over again. Where the I turn it off during feeding or not.

Bigger question is. How do you keep it from losing the foam?

I try leaving it on also, but the skimmer foam lvl drop.

Or should I ask if you leave the return pump on or off?

mine sits in sump and just re-circulates into sump water-so don't know on that one-

Here my thing with the skimmer. My G2 sit insump and I turn off the return pump every other day for feeding. I had it turn off during feeding and start again after feeding before. I now leave it on when I turn off the return pump during feeding. The foam always drop and have start all over again no matter how I set it. I even have the outlet of the skimmer above the water even when I turn off the return pump and yet still having the same problem.

Look likes the skimmer foam lvl drop when I turn the return pump back on after feeding.

There got to be a way to keep the foam running somehow.

Any clues on how to do this? Could I have set my sump wrong somehow?

Its not the skimmer or the sump or the return or anything mechanical. It's really simple... some foods kill the foam in the skimmer more than others. The fattier and oilier the food that you're feeding, the more likely you will kill the foam.

PE mysis for example utterly destroys the foam. Try breaking one of those shrimp open underwater in a cup. You will see drops of fat/oil rush to the surface.

Honestly, so what if the foam in your tank gets knocked out for a few hours every few days? Deal with it Wayne! :)

i don't to deal with it, I was hopping there are better way to keepo the foam going,

I turn mine off only when i add things i want to stay in solution for longer times. Like that bacteria Bio Digest
