I have one of my pieces of rock that seem to be developing some very tiny brown polyps very fast. They are about the size of the end of a bic pen. I would say they look like aiptasia but may to small. Only reason I worry is because they are growing way to fast. I would get a pic if I had a good camera. Just about the same size as the polyps on some of my sps.

There are 3. 1 right, center and left. Hydor 3's. All pointed at the front glass. The rock they are on is close to the bottom in between right and center. Of coarse 2 pieces of tonga rest on this rock that run all the way to the back of the tank and hold up 30 lbs of rock above!

I would say it's flow related (a low flow area in a high flow tank) AND the feedng of high protein food

So do I blast them off? I do have a small boat with a winch, I could tie off to the tonga and lift it enough to swap that rock out with another :lol2:. On a serious note I may be able to do something of this nature. I can adjust the power heads, but really dont know how I would position them to keep from ******* off the sps. So kalk past? Nuke them! How do I make it and or buy this:D. That sounds fun. I did a small test and feed the fish there pellets on the other side of the tank. No food went over there. I dont have to feed Rods food. 95% of my coral really do not need the food.

AndyMan;530162 wrote: but where do you put the rods food into the tank? rather than pellets, if you've got some liquid like reef snow, you might be able to see the actual flow pattern in the tank (have to put it in whereyou put the rods food though)

Center is were I feed Rods so that it spreads well. i can stop the power heads all together. When they are on it blows everywhere if you put it in the center. The flow blows it straight aginst the glass then it rolls right up under the rock work and blows out through all the openings in the rock work. So yes I am stuffing there little *$$es. I found that some people say to stop feeding them and they can die back but no time line. how about the kalk paste. you just make it with kalkwasser? Very small amount and make a paste?

hmmmm

How long does the paste have to on them? HAY how about spot treat with Joes Juice???? Will that bother sps?

But yes, just take a little lime powder and add enough RO to make a thick paste. If you are careful and turn off the flow in the tank, you may be able to nuke the hydroids and then after it has been in contact with them for ten or fifteen minutes, take a turkey baster and suction the paste off the rock. It will take you being very careful, and even then it could be a little risky. I've done that before, and I did slightly "get" a monti cap that was right there, but it recovered.
If you elect to try this, I'd avoid turning the PH that faces this particular rock on, until you give it some time and get all of the paste back off the rock that you can. Then you can restore full flow. You also have to be sparing with the kalk, as too much could spike your pH up.

I have 3 spots the size of quarters or smaller right now. I will be straight up, my PH is always on the high side. Its were I like it and so does the reef. It runs 8.4-8.5 so I dont like any risk of spiking it. I dont think 1 teaspoon of kalk will really spike the ph that much on 120 gallons though. I also dont want to kill my coral! I would risk attempting to remove the rock, treat it then put it back! hmmmmmmmm

I have time. I am going to get some shrimp this weekend, I found this as well. If that dosent help I will pull the rock and nuke them!! Just have to look real close on how I stacked it..

Thanks for the help!! I have some ideas now

Understand, I don't like risk either. I'd certainly never encourage somebody to do something with their tank that they weren't comfortable with.

I have to look at it tomorrow. I really think I can use something across the top of the tank, pull up on the tonga and get this softball size rock out. Nuke the #%*£ out of it then put it back! Sounds exciting.

Yeah, but you beat them the easy way... acclimated them to the driveway if I remember correctly... :)
