Does anyone know if smokey O's will host? My picaso clowns host my large frogspawn now and I love it!

Actually the clowns aren't the host. They are just the clowns that crash the party =)

If I'm not mistaken, ALL clowns have the natural desire to find a host for protection. Now what they choose to be hosted by is another story. Sometimes it's a coral, sometimes it's an anemone, sometimes it's just a piece of rock.

It also depends on the age in my opinion. Younger clowns tend to be more "all over the tank" whereas sexually mature clowns tend to stay in a more restricted location.

Ok I have two Picasso clowns and I'm giving one to my sister bc I'm getting a smokey o in hopes that the two will pair up also will that work? If so which one should I keep the smaller (male) or the bigger (female) one?

Ok so I'll take the female and put it with the smokey right? And put the male in the other tank

Edit: And things should b ok?

Can't say for sure. Pairing my snowflakes has been a long process. The smaller one gets bullied and wasn't allowed in the nem. But lately, The larger one lets the smaller one in. Not sure if either is sexually mature, but there is a pretty good size difference.

Ok bc I def have a big female a small male and I'm pretty sure the smokey o is younger and smaller so I think it'll be ok. What's the difference between fighting clowns and a clown showing dominance? Jdavid you seem to be the clown guru lol it must b from all the clowns you own huh I've been lookin at your site and blog pretty cool stuff!

Look lmao yea the j just threw me off yea that's who I ment lol but ur very smart when it comes to them too lol I'm glad u commented its helped a lot but do u know the answer to my last question??

Your last question is just like your first. No one can type you a one word answer. you'll have to live with your fish and learn what they are telling you.

Well I'm tryin to learn from your experiences and I'm not looking for a one word answer! I've never lived with the smokey o I couldn't possibly know how they will act together and my question is way different then the first I wanted to know the difference between fighting and showing dominance or if u can even tell the difference? I was also just making sure I read it right so ill ask it again to put the bigger one with the smokey o?

First of all, If I'm not mistaken the picasso clowns are true percs (A. percula) and the smokey o's are false percs (A. ocellaris)

I'm guessing that they will still par up, but doesn't it take (percula x percula) + (ocellaris x ocellaris) to get percula x ocellaris offspring?

If your picassos are bonded, it will be harder to get one to accept the smokey o as it's new partner. At least that is what I hear.

To answer your other question, The larger one will bite the smaller one and the smaller one will start wiggling/twitching it's body to show that it submits to the dominance of the larger clown. If it kills it, it was not a worthy mate. lol.

You are mistaken. Both of you need to do some research. All of these questions have been answered countless times here and on other forums. Saltwater is a bit of a challenge and not everyone will succeed. I'd suggest using the SEARCH box. Cshack you really should stick with what you have.
JDavid please don't tell anyone else you've gotten fish from me- since you haven't.

I haven't told anyone that I got a fish from you, ever, so if you care to be more specific I will clear that up for you.

Cshack if this helps you the picassos that you have behave just like any other Percula. I was under the impression that offspring between percula and ocellaris originally happened on accident when two pairs of each were spawning in the same tank, since I had read that somewhere before (on a forum where people answer other people's questions).

I have also had a fish store owner tell me that when a bonded pair of clownfish is broken up, they will sometimes not pair up with another fish, or it can be difficult.

I have two snowflake clownfish. One that I got from a sponsor, and one that I got from :o PETCO! (And I spent under $40 on each one of them, I might add)

Mine are ocellaris. The larger one will basically attack the smaller one. If the smaller one twitches it's body (which I am assuming is to show submission to the larger one), the larger one will stop attacking it. I have been watching them closely, and I have seen two clownfish fight and one get killed before when helping somebody set up a new tank, so that's the only difference I can say that I know between fighting and showing dominance.

However I am not an expert and I do not know as much about the fish as you might think I do. I do agree with James though, you should stick with what you have, maybe consider buying your sister a nice clownfish from one of our great sponsors on here who will be willing to talk to you and at least attempt to answer your questions.

Also I've majorly succeeded with salt tanks FYI its definitely for me I'm just not a pro when it comes to the compatibility of each type of clownfish sry but that is way different then not knowing about saltwater tanking my friend don't be condescending please. My tanks have done nothing but flourished since I got them which has been a long while now. But anyways thx for all the clownfish help guys it was all very helpful I def learned ALOT as usual when I have a question. I'm very excited about my smokey maybe ill try him out in the tank for a week or two and if it works ill keep him in there if not ill move him first sign of trouble and bring the other back and put the smokey in my other tank I was originally getting a pair but plans changed no worries though I got hooked up so it worked out :) but thx bunches guys
