If she's against painting it you could buy a background in blue or black. Not only will it hide clutter, it will make the tank appear deeper and make colors stand out more once you get to the coral srage. I like the peninsula idea though.

The tank is going to be delayed for a little bit. The old man, the cat, passed away this morning. I miss my little buddy.
