It just dawned on me that the protein skimmer that comes with the Solana/Cardiff is stuffed with little bio balls whose function is to cut down on bubbles in the outflow.
I'd rather not have them in there functioning as a nitrate factory. Has anyone used this skimmer without the little balls keeping the bubbles in check?
