hello, i'm new to the club. hope someone could give me some advice. I got started with a 29gal bio cube a few years ago and got hooked. so a few months ago i wanted to go bigger and got a 75 gal tank. everything has been doing great. I tried to save some money and bought some live rock on craigslist. seemed like a great deal full of mushrooms, polyps, zoes ect. its been about 3 weeks now and i noticed a couple green bubbles in the center piece a week ago. looked up online and its what i believe is green bubble algae. found online info sying to get some emerald crabs so i did. tonight the 2 green bubbles are now eight. I really don't want this crap to spread. should i just pull it from the tank and trash it? or try to clean it somehow? I would appreciatte some some advice from anyone that has had this and got rid of it.

Bubble algae is one of those things that can happen despite great water quality. It's no big deal. Here is what you do. Take some airline tubing and start a siphon into a container on the floor. Try to vacuum out the entire bubble. If you pop it, stay right next to it with the tubing, because when it's popped it releases spores into the tank, causing new bubble algae to pop up. But if you are siphoning the water out right on top of it all the spores should exit the tank through the tubing. Almost forgot- you want to turn off all pumps first. This will ensure that you are able to suck the spores out before they are spread. Sometimes you have to poke and prod at it to get the "root" to come loose. You want to make sure you get the whole thing in the tube and out of the tank. Good luck!

Good method if you can't take the rock out. But if you can remove the rock scrub it off with a toothbrush in a bucket of RO. When you have it all cleaned tense in another bucket of RO.

As for the emeralds I found the small ones won't touch it but the big ones love the stuff. I watched mine pulling so hard that when it broke free he almost toppled over backwards off the rock.

And by the way. Welcome. We are glad you joined us. :-)

I had the same problem and I took the same advice you got from here. Once you get them cleaned off the crabs will take care of the rest. I haven't had any since I cleaned them off and got the crabs.

I've had problems with them coming back in the same spot because the roots are too strong and it ends up popping on me and leaves a little bit of root i can't scrape off.

It's the emerald crabs that eat them right? Anyone had any problems with emerald's and corals or other inverts? I've seen quite a few comments on the web about them being iffy with corals sometimes.

outdrsyguy1 again i am not experienced but since i got the emerald crabs a few weeks ago i have only seen them a few times. i had one messin with a toadstool for a little bit but he did not dammage it. i have mushrooms, polyps, zoes, xinia, candy cane and they have not messed with them at all. good luck with yours :)

Welcome to ARK!
I fell in love watching Emerald Crabs with my first nano tank and have keep them for years. I've got 5 -7 in my 55 now and they have never bothered any of my mixed reef. They are such interesting little guys!
Good luck, you will conquer it!

thanks everyone for the info on emerald crabs. I've got 3 peppermints and a tiger pistol shrimp (small). I'm going to look into finding a small emerald soon unless you guys think it's a bad idea for that combo.
