not sure. i would say he might be getting ready to molt but if he were he wouldn't be out in the open like that shrimp usually go into hiding when they're about to molt

He was under the rocks and I tried to touch em and he moved there. Now he's back under the rocks still moving a little.

Edit: I also think the pistol shrimp has been eating all my hermits because I haven't seen many in a while. Just empty shells. Maybe his food supply ran out and is slowly passing on. Are they known to eat crabs.

Some will eat hermits.

I have like no more crabs. The pistol shrimp is about 2 inches. What do I do. There are a bunch of empty shells crab shells

It's a tough call! I don't really know enough about this particular situation to give proper advise. Does he have a goby? If no, are you making sure to feed him? They are blind, so finding food is a problem for them. Usually the paired goby will feed the shrimp.

The snails, crabs, and pistol might be a symptom of something else. All are inverts and all are susceptible to the same insults.

I have a diamond goby and a watchman goby. The gobies were in the tank well before the shrimp. How do they pair up. I understand they have a symbiotic relationship. But does it automatically happen. I also had no idea they were blind

A symptom of what? I also have a skunk cleaner shrimp and he seems fine. As well as the snails. Although I have has 2 red collar snails die in the past month.. What could be wrong.

Update
The shrimp is dead. I found my arrow crab dangling him from his claws. I think the arrow crab might be eating the smaller hermits. Is that common?

Arrow crabs will definitely eat any thing they decide to, snails, hermits, molting shrimp even small fish. The larger an arrow crab gets the the better its hunting skills become.

+1

I've had to get rid of an arrow crab and coral banded due to aggressive hunting of my fish and crabs.

I have a golden coral banded now and he is much more docile.

I feed my pistol shrimp as well as my skunk shrimp some mysis shrimp when I feed the fish. I noticed early on that he would attack hermits and snails. So I try to keep him happy and not hungry for others.

For the symbiotic relationship. Usually happens within 5 minutes of putting the two types in the tank together.

I hate crabs and shrimp. They serve a purpose, especially in a large enough tank. But omnivorous, opportunistic feeders can be hit or miss. I wish I had went with a snail only CUC. see if you can donate the crab to someone who would want it.
