Anyone have a reccomendation on a beginner sps, somthing that looks cool, grows fast and is inexpensive. I just got a new 36" 6 bulb nova extreme and would like to try my hand at it. Anyone got a really cheap frag?:D

Steve

Edit: or are all sps cared for about the same?

I'm not a sps expert by any means. I've had good luck with ORA birdsnest its a thin branched Seriatopora. Nice neon green.

Montipora and birdsnest are great beginner sps. They are generally known to be more forgiving than acropora species. They generally need a very stable tank with no phosphate and very very low-none nitrate. They generally prefer high light, high flow, and higher calcium levels. It is important to make sure that your alkalinity, magnesium, and calcium stay relatively stable. I have been maintaining my sps tank at:

Ca: 450ppm
Alk: 2.5mg/l-3.0mg/l
Mg: 1400ppm
NO3: 0ppm
PO4: 0ppm

I use LED lights and have had pretty good luck so far. Everyone has a few bumps here and there, but you'll get the hang of it. I have an orange encrusting monti frag you can have if you want to come get it.

I have some great looking Pocillopora on a clam shell you can have for free. Stuff has started propagating everywhere.

I have some Ora Pink Birdnest, I will give you when you pickup the overflow box. Do you need any chaeto? :D Holley

Thanks!
