I'm going to start with Elos Omega Aminos tonight. I've researched the pros and cons for the last month or so and decided I would give it a go. I will also be using SVC and Pro Skimmer.

I'm still trying to figure out dosage of each of these products, so if anyone has any insight it would be appreciated. The dosage is listed in the instructions but it just doesn't seem right.

For instance the Omega says min. 3 drops per 13gals.

For 120 g that would put me up around 30 drops right? 120 / 13 = x then x * 3

OMEGA = Amino Acids
SVS = Plankton Suppliment
Pro Skimmer = Complex Carbs

I took pics of corals and frags yesterday so that I can mark any growth / recession (let's hope not) as I begin use of these products.

At any rate I will start slow and note any differences.

27.692307692307692307692307692308, but I guess you could round it up to 28 ;)

I calculated it as a proportion, so

3/13= x/120, so
3x120/13=x, so
28=x (rounded up, of course)

thats what I was getting too, I just rounded it up a little because of sump / reactors / that sort of thing.

27 drops just seems like a crap load for a daily dosage.

Yea I would start with like 4 to 8 if dosing every day. I use to use 4 drops daily in a 100 gal system.

Now I just dose 4 drops one or two days a week but I feed my fish heavily so I do not need as much anymore. My system is like 215 to 225 gal.

I do not have the directions but are you sure you read them right. Just double check to be sure.

SnowMan, I was just yankin' your chain man, being a smart...aleck.

Yep, you had it right. I am interested in seeing how this goes for you. I have a strong current interest (pun intended) in carbohydrate and amino acid dosing. I have a feeling this 'hobby' has moved to another level, just like when high intensity lights became mainstream.

Ya I've read them like 4 times haha. I'm always a little scared to put new stuff in my syestem.

I'll start off small and run 5 drops a day.

1st dose =
5 drops Omega (aminos)
5 drops PS (carbs)
10 x 0,4 scoops of SVS (basic supplemental coral food)

The SVS reminds me a LOT of Reef Chili. Smells like it.. looks like it.. but it is moist and not dry like the RC is.

Forgot to add. The Omega and PS is to be added daily while the SVS is to be added on a weekly basis.

Snow, I use SVC and Omega in my tank, which is a 72 gallon tank. When I started dosing Omega I gave one drop per every other day for three weeks and then one drop per day for three more weeks and now I dose 3 drops per day. The SVC I use the larger scoop and feed that twice a week. I hope this helps. These were the directions that Chris at Einstein gave me.

Yeah be careful. Too much too soon, and you will see an algae bloom like no other. I would do like 2-3 drops max for about 2-3 weeks, and increase by 1 or 2 drops per weeek after that...

Day 1 (after initial dose)

As expected no change :) in coloration or growth (although it would have been awesome to say my sps s have grown 5 inches over night haha)

Skimmer skimmed more than normal last night (as was expected)

Last night the LPS corals went nuts over the SVS (again as expected)

Still dosing as above. No algae blooms as of yet (keeping fingers crossed for the next few weeks on that one).

What I have noticed.
RAPID healing of fresh frag:
I fragged a Blue Tort. Within 24 hours the "fragged area" of the frag had incorporated zoo algae (because I can't spell zooanthellae or whatever). The fragged area was colored just like the rest of the coral and no longer looks fresh cut.

I have also noticed a deeper color in a few fist sized plate corals (one of which I got from Jen like 6 years ago haha).

One of my digitas with purple polyps has also gotten a slightly brighter color to the actual polyps.

I know it isn't a mind game because I've been taking pictures every day so i can compare.

I am also a few days out from having done a water change though, so these things COULD be attributed to this and not the Elos product.

Still dosing AA and PS

I HAVE noticed that ALL the algae on my sand bed has gone. I haven't done a water change or any other kind of substantial husbandry since I started dosing.

I've also noticed the skeletal color (not the polyps) of several sps corals have become brighter (not really darker just more colorful)

I've only noticed this on digitas and a purple BN.

Skimmer is skimming black smelly goo (normally brown smelly goo) I assume this is due to the increased potential nutrient export as a result of more nutrient import :)

Pictures, your'e taking pictures and aren't sharing them...for shame, for shame, for shame!-lol

Yep, skimmer turning black means it's taking out much more bacteria which are what take up the nitrate and phosphate in particular.

Happy for you that cyano and/or bottom algae are disappearing. Sounds like you have kept a very clean system, in terms of nutrients. A lot of people that started dosing AA have reported an 'extended adaptation period', which some interpret to mean, time needed to clean out excess nutrient build-up.

The coral color-up is an excellent sign! Congrats!

well there is a warning on the package instructions that says to discontinue use if the corals turn dark. I'm not really sure what that means, but the color I'm getting looks like it is suppose to be there.

And yes the system is a fairly clean system. My sps's have always grown and done pretty well, but never really taken off. I'm starting to think my system was almost too clean to give them the nutrients they needed.

Even if the product is snake oil I'm really learning a lot about coral respiration, nutrient export and the like. It's enjoyable after going through a year or so of not really learning anything (after the initial few years of sponging everything up).

I've been taking it slow for 5 and a half years and I don't plan on gearing up any time soon :)
