Is it normal for the base of some sps coral colonies to bleach? I have 2 colonies that show great color and polyp extension but there are parts that get no light anymore that have bleached out. It's been a super slow progression (months) that I attributed to normal growth and what happens when parts shadow out other parts but as I read up on STN it worries me.

Are you positive its solid white... as the underside of sps not getting light will fade to a real light color but if tissue is still visable this is likely the case

STN doesn't normally start at the base, but I guess it COULD.. normally it just starts all over.

I'll bet its just not getting light.

a pic may help /.?

Tests were normal as of last week. I'll do another round if I get a chance. And a picture is harder to get than i thought it may be. I tried, but no good angles.
