Sitting in the living room, I heard a change in the sound of my tank (suddenly sounded like loud running water). I opened the stand doors to see that my return pipe was no longer connected to my return pump.
The pump has a union, ball valve, and then a threaded adapter to a barb fitting for the flexible hose.
The threaded adapter broke cleanly in half, so my Mag 7 was making a nice small fountain effect as it pumped water up to nothing.
The pump was not hanging by this or anything; it sits on the floor of the sump with plenty of slack in the hose.
Luckily I was home, since this was effectively the same as a dead return pump and both heaters are in the sump. If I had been at work I would have had a cold tank at a minmum.
Lesson? Heck, I guess there is nothing that can't fail. :confused2:
