so, I'm thinking of a wide tank.. then it hits me

MY DOORS... aren't standard doors 36" wide..

how do ppl get super wider tanks in the house????

turn it on its side. There is a reason the marineland DD tanks are only 27" tall(standard 30" door with framing)

if any dimension is over 27" then you need double doors, or a window you can remove.

its actually the STAND i'm concerned about ..

I'll be doing some measuring later today

nope :)

I seriously doubt most anyone with a reef tank is building an aquarium taller then 30" or 36", unless it is a very large custom built (and those that are built out of glass are usually built on site). I built a 72"L x 48"W x 30"H tank and it fits fine through my 36" front door, I just had to turn it up on its side and carry it through, now the stand is a different problem all in itself (I built the stand where I was putting the tank to resolve this issue).

the stand's biggest dimension would be 34 I believe...
just glad i thought of this before I spent serious cash to make or have something made that wont go in my home haha

Edit: 34" high....no problems then, should fit fine, just open the door completely and measure.

but we are really slender people here in Alabama.. our doors are wicked skinny

Edit: I'm also ast work and had a moment of panic so the thread was born haha.

I just called a master woodworker I know who is an older fellow and a friend. I may work with him on this stand. Everything he does is as close to perfect as can be expected. He's slow, but MAN everything he builds is something to behold.
We will make it work I'm sure

Stands can be made in such a way that they can be taken into the room in 2+ pieces and then assembled , actually just stacked in place, and will fit through a 2/6 door.

My 465 gallon came in through a sliding glass door that I completely disassembled and had to put back together.

When you upgrade I think you will find that the doors in the Double Wide are a bit wider than those in the Single Wide. Hehehehehehe.

Only a Midwest boy would think that double wide meant the doors. Silly prairie dog

leveldrummer;883784 wrote: But seriously, do you have any doors that are close? sometimes you can take the door off the hinges and get an extra inch or two. but the best bet is gonna be building the stand with screws, where it is gonna sit.
The only problem is the screw heads have a tendency to corrode in the salty enviroment and makes next to impossible to disassemble with out damaging the stand should one ever need to remove it from that room. I suppose SS screws could be used to help with that .

I'm good. I can get a 34" tall stand in if I take the door off the hinge. I really wanted 35-36" but I can spare a few inches if it means not cutting a hole in the side of the house (which I've SEEN BEFORE in the name of aquariums!).
