I just got a very large diamond goby from Oz and I can tell already i need more sand. I am looking for good white sand that isnt too corse like crushed coral but not sugar either - something that wont cloud the tank after a good burrowing and gobbling session and a few clown burnouts too.

I am currently using Seachem pearl beach (too dusty even after a million rinses) and another kind too - I may even swap out the entire sand bed for uniformity...should I be concerned about doing this in one swoop or should I do it in 2 seperate events?

Special Grade Sea Flor Reef Sand.

Small enough to be sifted, big enough not to be blown around.

+1

The Fiji pink sand isn't bad either...not to fine not to coarse..depending on how long the existing sand has been in there doing it all at once shouldn't be toooooo much of a problem....if it's been in there for a while though I'd do it a little slower...JMO....I have the pacific black sand.....it's white smaller grains and larger black chunks....they can still sift it and use the chunks around thier burrow....but whatever....I know your clowns like to fan the sand in there.....basically anything that's not a very fine sand should be good....

I looked up all of the recommendations - im kinda looking for more of a white substrate. I guess the whiter it is means its basically white sand so i guess im not gonna get a true white substrate in the size im looking for.

Dave - im not so sure im ready for a black sand....lol

That stuff is the whitest white I know...

(and I happen to have a couple bags left over, haha)

The Bahama Oolite looks to be the whitest. looking back at the other it looks similar to what came with my tank....i may give it a try - How much Robin?

I think the 40lbs bags were 40$ each,
I'll take 30 - brandnew, never opened and will throw in one that is still about half full for free...

Let me sleep on it - the Carib Sea web site says that sku is not "burrower friendly"

+eleventy billion...

I've been on both extremes, sand as fine as popcorn salt and crushed coral. The Sea Flor is a great happy medium for me.

i dont disagree with ya rob - i wonder why they would say its not burrower friendly when the min/max size is larger than the stuff that is...go ahead J if you want it - I need over 100 lb anyway so ill just get it all in one shot.
